We get carried by the visible. They are easy to debate, discuss, and dissect. - fonts and colors on your website instead of content - camera, lenses instead of principles of photography - Jira (or Basecamp) instead of training in project mgmt All are pretentious veneer
@rishabhgarian Congrats @rishabhgarian
@patrick_oshag Gaming as a mental model for successful business - Your interview with @joshbuckley. There is so much gold in there. I am going to peel the layers of meaning for months to come.
@TWaschenfelder @naval We all chose what we want to be ignorant of:
@Abhishek_Rai We are celebrating number of SMSs sent instead of number of vaccines injected. I am not sure if the "system" will listen to the "experts".
@shikhilsharma For many there are no choices.
@anujmagazine Buffet has made many mistakes and he talks about them. - cigar butt investing - index investing - apple stock - tech investing He has changed his mind. The best method is barbell investing. Put your money both on things that will not change & things that will change quickly
@anujmagazine Value investors bet on world not changing Tech investors bet on rapidly changing world Both are true depending on the context. Context matters.
@rafat @nytimes @Actor_Siddharth routinely speaks his mind and his phone number is leaked to threaten him. That is the new India.
@mar15sa @GregoryMcKeown The other one is bragging about total emails one get every day. Some days I get no calls and no emails. I wonder if I am doing something wrong 😱
@CalmAchiever What mobile apps do you use? I use @1writerapp on iOS & a combination of DropSync & Marker on android
@rochakchauhan Thank you @rochakchauhan
@CalmAchiever Didn't know you too are an avid obsidian user. Great. We are in more common groups that we know :-)
@dbustac This 4 min episode could be a good intro:
@marshallk True Marshall. I posted my learnings here: • • •
@marshallk 18
@marshallk As part of electronics engineering, I learned systems theory. That is probably the best I learned in college. Very useful throughout my life and career.
@SejalSud @ParidaLippi Looking forward to the full video. 👍
@benbarbersmith @arvidkahl Context trumps advice. Why you need a personal mentor who knows you and your situation.
@craigburgess Check in apple podcast. Overcast picks from apple podcasts
@rochakchauhan This is why you should attend my weekly free "Gravitas WINS shows" on Thursdays. We go deeper into it. If you can enroll for my Gravitas WINS course.
@rochakchauhan @McConaughey Chase what you would be in 10 years And trumpet about what you are doing while getting there. These two might help if you want to digg deeper: • Building A Personal Brand On LinkedIn: • Building In Public, Jeff Bezos Style:
@orangeturban @craigburgess @arvidkahl @jamierusso Gagan: Listen to the episode. It is full of great insights. 2 pts I learned: • you might want to portray an image of a designer; but all you talk about is entreprenuership, you will be branded founder not designer • if you switch too often, ppl can't place you in their mind
Good conversation. Enjoyed it. Thanks @arvidkahl @craigburgess & @jamierusso . BTW, have you guys named the podcast yet?
• Don't chase others Be inspired by others but don't chase them. You'll always be behind them. From Oscar speech of @McConaughey. He said: I need a hero to chase. every day, every week, every month & every year of my life, my hero is 10 yrs away.
If you pivot too quickly and too much, others will be confused about what you do. They won't be able to recall you (or your brand). Talk about one element for a certain period of time (say 100 days or a year)
• Be consistent Show up and do what you said you will do. That becomes your brand. • Share a design •Tweet about leadership • Talk about vulnerability of founders Quantity > Quality when you are starting.
• Brand is what you do I am reading "Culture is what you do" by @bhorowitz : Ben makes a similar point in the book. Values are what you aspire to Virtues are what you do The trios in the podcast make a similar case.
@robert_glazer Hey Robert, been a regular reader of FF. Intrigued by today’s topic as I hv a 12 yr old son. Been thinking abt how best to teach him. With pandemic schooling has become even worse. What options we have to educate our kids?
@navilan Thanks for sharing this Navilan
@pacificleo Pride - I agree Fall - Not so sure People seem to vote for them amidst all the idiocy.
@navilan I agree Navilan. I don't know what we can do. Most people seem to see these morally corrupt politicians as their saviours. They defend them with all they got. The incompetency combined with stupid confidence has led to where we are
@navilan You and I are old school (and non-politicians). They play by - heads I win, tails you lose
@abhimanyubh They still compete on price not on customer obsession
@rochakchauhan @prasanna_s He is smart. He will not step in to take all the blame. Only ones who will step in will be extreme RW. That will be even worse.
@prasanna_s Known devil is better than unknown angels. If he steps down, who else in BJP to step in as PM?
@divanshuarora Sorry for your loss my friend. Last year Covid was distant and a stastic. This year it is real. I lost a good friend to Covid. Now at least 10 of my friends are infected. Takes enormous mental strength to focus on what needs to be done.
@madversity And they have strong independent institutions unlike India.
@jackerhack @PranavDixit The way country is behind the piper, that sounds about right.
@bcosynot @robfitz @pearvc @NilsBunger @galeforceVC Recently I launched a course. It is not the same as a product. But if it helps, I used these two: • PASTOR framework: • 30% feedback:
Probably here is the first step you can take. Check out my course Gravitas WINS at . I teach actions that you can take so as to make your life lucky.
I hope I have convinced you that we can classfiy luck as much as we classify risks. What are you going to do to attract luck? 👇
I started as a programmer. I was an advisor to govt of India for a while. Now I'm a chief technology officer. A family friend of mine asked me to train him. What started as an informal calls has now become a course. This opportunity came because of the unique life I had. 👇
The last one is personality luck. It comes to you because of who you are. The beliefs you hold, hobbies you pursue, and the jobs you did makes a unique individual out of you. That unique identify attracts certain types of opportunities. 👇
The 3rd type of luck comes to you because of discernment, a foresight so to speak. I read annual reports, internet trends to identify emerging patterns. I prepare myself and trumpet about it. I benefit by partnering with others who believe as like me. 👇
I started writing on the net in 2003. I had no greater ambition with it. In 2019, an editor in a local newspaper wanted someone to review tech books. A common friend referred me. I reviewed multiple books. My name came on the newspaper because I kept writing. 👇
The second one is active luck You do something because you love doing it. You don't have any big strategic plans behind your action. Then fortunate events happen giving you unexpected results. 👇
Blind luck When we talk about luck, that is what we usually mean. I graduated in 1994 as India was going through massive economic reform. I had nothing to do with it. It was just a blind luck. 👇
