@austinschless Good thread with lots of examples. I hv not been able to compare this to conservative is one who says nothing should be done for the first time Meaning, • when you do try new things (as a consumer) • build build new things (as a builder)
Do you have any questions? Or comments? Tweet them. Iron sharpens iron. As you ask more questions, my mental image will get sharper and sharper. Go ahead and ask that question.
Most nations, companies, societies are poorly managed which is evident from their longevity.
Confident, not competent leaders As @coachgoldsmith said, the skills to get the job is not sufficient to do the job. But many don't understand that idea. They keep pushing through with yesterday's competence because yesterday's confidence got them here.
I scored high marks in school and college; I was deputed for an onsite assignment (only one from my team) because of my ability to get things done. But I struggled with "confidence". I didn't view myself as having potential even though reality said something different
Can we, then, develop gravitas? Is it nature or nurture? Valid question. We will explore it next. Click "Follow" to keep getting these tweets.
Competent AND confident leaders They are an exception, not the norm. If a nation or a company gets such a leader, they will prosper, not only in the leader's life time but also long after that, since the leader will frame a structure for prosperity. They have gravitas
Competent, not confident leaders They are promoted for their technical acumen. They know what they need to do and achieve great results. But they let their insecurities cripple them to move ahead. They can't carry the team because they are not confident I was one like that
@emollick Thank you Ethan for sharing this study. Relieving
@velumania @ckknaturals @R_Induja @sujithkumar13 Thank you. Some biz men are raising their voices against these bigoted voices. More power to you. If you can raise these in associations and eventually to Govt it would be even better. These bigoted voices seems to gain stronger and stronger. Drowns all the +ve news
@pratikjain429 @SrashtiKasera This is what Jack Ma & @sivers propose. I wrote abt their advice here:
@yadavajay @iOnkarMule Slow is smooth; smooth is fast.
@iOnkarMule @tushar_raven You can expand the logic to other areas of life. In fact Peter Drunker encouraged it. He was in favor of one lead decision instead of hundreds of decisions. I wrote abt it here:
@SejalSud @Least_ordinary @kshitiz_m @FI_InvestIndia @thefaadguy @TwitterSpaces yes the space was good. you should nominate (request) someone to note major points and tweet as the space is going on. it wud be of great help for many also try CH once. benefit there is you can create a club and ask folks to join in.
@SejalSud @Least_ordinary @kshitiz_m @FI_InvestIndia @thefaadguy With 800 folks joining in you might have done user testing for @TwitterSpaces which they may not have done 😜 You shud send them a bill 😀
@mijustin @mjwhansen @buildyoursaas Just listened to her podcast interview on indie hacker. Sure hooked. Her journey itself is interesting. Going to read.
@calebporzio @jasonlbeggs After seeing @mijustin showcase power of @Alpine_JS I am playing with it in a personal project. So I would love to see this. Qstn: will this make alpine into vue?
If you like to read in an article format, please read here: And don't forget to follow me.
Go read the book. It is a practical book with so many examples.
Be Authentic Your content should be about your audience. If your content solves their problem and celebrates their life, they will become your evangelists. It is not about a hotel in Goa, but people who go to Goa.
Conversations before Campaigns Ask what conversations will your content start as conversations are at the heart of social media.
Distribution Strategy Get 100 organic shares within first 3 hours Then social media algorithms will amplify your content. If your immediate community does not love you, how can anyone else love you?
Mobile Is The New Theater Folks are not watching videos in a theatre with full attention. They watch on a mobile device. Your content should be suitable for tiny screens. => videos shud be square & centered like selfies Come to the point in 3 - 6 min & focus on story
Only thing that matters: BS or no-BS Creators classify content into: • short-form • long-form • videos • slides Consumers have only 2 categories: • This is bullshit content • Not-bullshit content Same filter applied for Netflix movies & cheap video done on a phone.
Opportunity vs Challenge Lot of videos are created & uploaded on social media platforms Rising tides lift all boats. You can ride the rising wave if you create relatable content.
Virality is like a joke You can work on the structure of the joke, but you can’t force people to laugh. Viral videos are similar. A virality is a result. Process is within your control, but outcome is not.
As a system thinker, I loved the chapter: Method to the madness Aashish talks about the process of making viral videos. Here are my favorite points: 👇
About the book Every concept is explained with illustrations. Each topic has many examples, not just theory. All the videos are on youtube. So you can watch and understand what is said in the book.
He is a practitioner, not an observer. This book is based on his experiments in Ixigo.
About Aashish He is VP of Content Marketing at @ixigo His team created several viral videos. One example: Stuff you can take from hotels Made at a budget of ₹7000 Became so popular it was played on @WhoopiGoldberg show
@magdalenakala @dorieclark This is the example I give in my talks: Say you go to Taj Mahal 2 folks approach you with cameras 1 says, I take awesome photos, hire me to take your photos Another shows a portfolio and says I took these photos, hire me Who will you hire? Same goes for jobs. Porfolio matters
@magdalenakala What I wrote in 2018 as future of jobs and what we need to do to thrive in that future: • content creation • social proof • networking (based on @dorieclark HBR article):
Is it possible to build a flywheel that integrates your personal and professional life? Yes, of course. Watch this session for: • what is flywheel • examples of personal and corporate flywheels • how you can start building one for your life
@Least_ordinary @SejalSud Qstns: From beginners perspective 1. Is growth > protection or Protection > growth 2. Is there a lazy man's form of investing? 3. My dad / husband takes care of my money. Why shud I have fin Literacy? 4. Wat are the authentic source of investing news?

Be Brave, Not Cool Podcast discussion on @IndieHackers between @mwseibel & @csallen
@jackerhack Typical case of "They came for them. I didn't speak since I wasn't them. Then they came for me. No one spoke for me because I was not them." Even now if NASSCOMs and others don't speak up, they are going down the drain. And when that happens they are the ones to be blamed
@iam_anandv I'm in a similar situation Anand. Whatever you come up with please share (will do the same) Even thought of dropping out of school and going home schooling. But in India the options seems limited
If Stripe was fear driven then they would have charged less. If you want to validate demand, you have to charge higher price.
It has been cool to shit on things. To feel great, badmouth something else.
If you don’t want to be booed play in your backyard. If you play on Madison gardens, you’ll get booed. Get used to it
How to get my first customers? Wrong question. You should know users who have the problem who can use your solution.
Being disciplined is way more powerful than being smart
All founding teams should have technical acumen to build the product
Peers matter. We need peers who challenge and inspire you
Not that we don’t feel fear. But we act in spite of fear
Most mistakes are born out of envy or fear
Main mistake most do: They copy the result They don't study the action that gave the leverage that led to the result
