We see the world as we are and not as is. Group may start with low level of trust and then we move upwards.
@singhtechnical shared: I always wanted to read books and discuss ideas. But when @GravitasWins community came together to review books, I got interested and started reading books easily.
When people come together and start discussing an idea together rather than as saying your idea and my idea, ideas develop well
Synergize = "1 + 1 = 3" sum > parts When every habits are practiced together, sum is greater than what a single habit would've produced in our lives.
Synergy need high tolerance. There are always insecurities in people. When they come together they need tolerance to jell as a team
What I liked about these weekly reviews is how everyone gets an opportunity to read a chapter and share their point of view. Also, how folks like @josephineejoyce who don't read anything other than tech book, come forward to review a book in public.
@netshrink - As a doctor you might be able to identify the difference. Not common folks. - When the evidence is twisted it is not much EBM.
@netshrink I understand what you are saying abt the difference. But EBM is corrupt too as per this study.
@pranesh I don’t hv enuf knowledge to validate these explanations, though.
@pranesh What I hv learnt from study Bibles: - there are different verbs used in the original translations - fear of the Lord = awe, reverential, healthy fear that you have in the presence of someone bigger than you in every way - other fear = phobia. Paralysing fear
@jsparkblog We had way too many mega-ministers commit blunders and mistakes that tarnish the essence of Christianity. Even church as a whole have to be accountable to its elders.
@jsparkblog If Christianity to keep flourishing, there has to be strong accountability within church. Even Peter came back from Joppa and reported back to church. Most ministers want to be a lotus in the pond; but Jesus asked us to be a salt (invisible)
@personalfitnes3 I say to myself (and to my kids): Trouble with winning the rat-race is, even when you win, you are still a rat.
@MishiChoudhary But did GDPR did bring any meaningful change other than distracting pop-ups?
@pranesh What a wide-range of discussions I can have with you Pranesh. I love it. Would love you hear your take on this though. And why this sudden interest on this (if I may know)?
@pranesh Isn't @joinmastodon a step in that direction which already exists? Why another corporate behemoth needed to define standards?
@ashwinmahesh And they end up dragging the economy down - case in point Sri Lanka & Zimbabwe. Hope India doesn't go that route with increased nationalism
@rishabh_grg Congrats RG
@aurasky_ @fortelabs Absolutely. Of late I have discovered a benefit of these read-it later techniques / apps. They have saved countless hours of wasting time. I save an interesting article to pocket and never read it again 😱 If something is so good, I read it then and there.
@IPL @msdhoni I've repeatedly seen that the most inspired team is the one where the leader/manager stands one among the team, inspiring them with actions. When a leader fails to command respect and inspire the team, the spirit of the team decomposes, and they don't make much of headway.
@IPL @msdhoni 3. Team composition - a must for a win While it is essential to have 'super' skilled batsmen or bowlers in an intense game like T20, it is a must to have a disciplined team skilled in all matters of the game led by an inspiring skipper. There is no other substitute for victory
It was a great session. Thank you @Aswiniselvaraj for leading the book review. Thanks all for joining.
As @singhtechnical said at the end, when you listen with empathy it gives you lot of authority when it is your turn to speak.
- ethos: personal credibility - pathos: relationship - logos: reasoning the chain should be ethos -> pathos -> logos. Don't change the order
4 autobiographical responses - evaluate - probe - advising - interpret We should really avoid the autobiographical responses.
Key to great judgement is listening and understanding. Don't jump to judge.
Empathy is mostly talked about skill today. It is so surprising that it is a fundamental skill and @StephenRCovey talked about it decades ago. Empathy is need for sales, product design, engineers...
With empathetic listening you suspend judgement. You can empathize with a person without agreeing with them or contradicting them or demonizing the other party.
only when you have given the empathetic listening, you can go on to influence them with problem solving it is difficult, because you might become vulnerable. to influence, you should be ready to be influenced
As @TweetAmitM shared: when you multi-task, you always take more time to complete a task
You can multi-task when you don't need same type of energy. • you can walk and listen to a podcast but • you can't take a walk and driving a car
Levels of listening: - ignoring the speaker - selective listening - attentive listening - empathetic listening (not technique - mimicking etc)
Aren't we listening all the time to our parents & society? We don't listen to understand. We listen to reply back We might be nodding or being quiet but those are only facade if we are not listening to understand.
4 basics of communication • reading • writing • speaking • listening Listening is the key to influence others. To influence you need to listen and understand. Best way to influence is by our character and conduct, not tactics.
When kids get low marks, we immediately jump to prescription: > you spent time on device; you played too much without diagnosing the problem Key to inter-personal communication is "understanding the other party"
Thank you @Kuttycan for sharing your experience about - having at least one good conversation a year with a friend. Going to follow it
@TheCoolestCool Every morning I recite this verse and ask myself what patterns am I limiting myself to and what I can do to get out of them: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. - Romans 12:2
@Schandillia @netshrink Church's role in the rise of Nazi movement is well documented. But Doehring may not have been one to support Nazi's rise. Like it happens in all tyrannical case, some of religious words / sermons / literature could've been appropriated by Nazi party.
@RonnieScrewvala This is missing "Slack" option ;-)
@Schandillia @netshrink Any references Amit? reads differently. In the emerging Nazi movement Doehring saw a reprehensible attempt to create a new religion. He repudiated "the idolatry of racism, anti-Semitism, and the manipulation of the masses.
