@karanshukla27 Derek talks about it too. Good article. Though written from UK/US perspective, lot of points for India too
Rather than transforming into some post-economic Eden of good vibes, it becomes bitter, flailing, and nonsensical.
Britain seems trapped between a left-wing aversion to growth and a right-wing aversion to openness. Having offshored industry in favor of finance, its economy wasn’t resilient.
@madversity human being should be able to change a diaper,.. comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, …, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects. - Robert A. Heinlein
Harit asks: how many have ideas while showering, All hands go up
@cvkrishnan Every uni has a industry partnership dept. Their main motive: employment. There is so much of transactions going back & forth (startup events, lectures..) all with the motive of campus hiring and not value creation.
@CodingCommando In one of the earlier tweet elon talked abt this feature.
@ASP_TN @dharanisalem Thank you for the detailed reply Shankar. Helpful to understand. After reading your reply, I assume data triangulation should be part of all research studies.
@ASP_TN @dharanisalem How can one do data triangulation?
@madversity Would you mind explain “hedge before you hit”? Never heard it before.
@sastrytumuluri @rochakchauhan My first meetup when I landed at PKL. Thanks for the memories. (I didn't know you are kind of person who stirs up memories ;-) )
2nd example: you ask your team member to appear for a certification. Takes usually 3-4 months for prep & clearing. In between you’ve no idea to track progress unless you micro-manage. (If you do good members will leave + it is not a good mgmt practice)
@rishabh_grg Spotify CEO @eldsjal talks about shadowing other CEOs to learn from them here:
@rishabh_grg Indie biz isn't employee++; it is entirely different mindset. If you bring in employee mindset then you'll be anxious and desperate all the time. Act like a owner. Work with a owner for a while (best way is either as a co-founder or exec assistant) to understand how they work
@darius_1b 1. What kind of KM practices would you recommend for enterprises @darius_1b ? 2. What do you practice to articulate your expertise?
@abhymurarka Value investors are supposed to be objective. But as humans nobody can escape biases. Even today India faces the structural issues that Munger talked about in 2017. Example:
@chrizbot @johncutlefish Agree with your defn. Adding my 2c In “Playing to win” @RogerLMartin defines strategy as 5 choices. Answers to each box are the objectives, measures are KRs both lead to roadmap & backlogs. These objectives hv to cascade from top to bottom (corporate ➡️ biz unit ➡️ …)
@0xchackochan Show them why they should mentor you. Most folks want to know you will respect their time and take their advice well.
@0xchackochan Thanks Jackson. Oh there are lot. I wanted to contain to 12 (you know why 😜). Will continue to share more. Have a great day.
The Bible continues to shape my thinking. This is some of the major ways I have grown in the last few years. Hope I continue to drink from this book.
12. Run your race I have finished the race - 2 Timothy 4:7 Each one of us have a calling. Find that calling. Run that race. You'll have satisfied life. It is so easy to envy the races of others and switch tracks all the time. That causes stress and heartburn.
11. Be a salt You are the salt of the earth - Mat 5:13 Don't be a recluse. It is your duty to preserve and be part of the taste of the society.
10. If introspection is good for God, it is good for me too. "God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." - Gen 1:31 If God conducted retro daily and weekly, then I should too.
9. Jealousy can eat you from inside. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. - Ex 20:17 Be content with where you are; Be ambitious about your future. Don't look at others and feel envious.
8. God blesses you to be a blessing "I will bless you. You will be a blessing." - Gen 12:2 When God blesses you, he expects you to help others come up in their life. To the needy, not to the rich. That is the purpose of God's blessings.
7. If you can't zoom in and out, you don't know what you are talking about. In Mark 12:30,31 Jesus sums up the entire Bible into 2 commands: Love your God; Love others like yourself. Want more, read 10 commandments. Want even more examples? Read the entire Bible
6. If you don't love yourself, you can't love others "You shall love your neighbor as yourself" - Mark 12:31 Are you fat, short, black, bald? Love yourself as you are. Only then you will love others without any judgement.
5. Be ok with contradiction Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves - Mat 10:16 Different situations demands different responses. Know and respond. That is why you need wisdom (which is a gift from God, as per Bible)
4. Man’s action vs destiny "The horse is prepared for the day of battle; but victory is with Yahweh." Prov 21:31 Don't expect success without preparation. In spite of preparation, events beyond your control (luck) determine success.
3. Is life probabilistic or deterministic? "The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from Yahweh." - Prov 16:33 In the short run, life seems unpredictable; in the long run, if you play by rules, results are predictable.
2. Trust but verify (even if it is St. Paul) "examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so." - Acts 17:11 Fake news is not new. It happens in all domains. Respect people, but always verify their claims, even if they are trusted folks.
1. Constantly renew your mind “Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” Rom 12:2 The norms and truths you and those around you hold may not be true. Continually question your beliefs and renew your mind.
@SejalSud Listen to your father (at least on Diwali 🤣😜) Gold is a hedge. Stocks are for growth. You need both.
@darius_1b I gave up on workflowy after trying everything. Obsidian is so much simpler and faster. I only wish there was a possibility of zooming in on a particular point as with WF & Logseq
@malpani We don’t learn history and hence don’t learn from it.
@krishnanrohit I don’t know how it is in the UK. Here the overheads overwhelm the parents, esp if both work. PTMs, sudden celebrations of “red” dress day, school functions & award ceremonies, spl classes and tuitions, startup coaching, donation collection, school trips, the list is endless
@munishjauhar ji - respect going through roof with all your achievement. I can't walk to the market and back without breathing heavily.
@munishjauhar @DelhiHM_ Congrats Munish ji. Where you listening to rock songs?
Most often our analysis is based on “what happened”. We look into the rear view and say so far good. So going forward would be good too. We need to develop foresight.
Drinking poison kills you immediately. Putting sugar into your body shows up after 40 years. If you watched someone taking poison and sugar, you’ll come out thinking sugar is safe. For us to take action, frequency of feedback matters.
@ramsadwal Thank you
“It is so simple. Why can’t you get it”? “I don’t think you practice enough” “Focus. You are letting your mind wander” Best teachers don’t say these. They don’t teach the lesson at hand. They teach how to learn and overcome learning difficulties.
@phillida_lim Thank you. Interesting.
@Vivekahir1223 Congrats & Best wishes
5. Your mindset has to change before your life changes 6. Rarely you change in a single moment. It will be a slow process.
3. Or you are not taking time to ponder & practice. 4. Take one idea from a book. Ex: core idea of 4-hour work is do the essential work and delegate other. Rest of the pages is “how to”. Leave the how to and focus on the idea. Contextualise it for you.
@ramsadwal Of course. I don’t mean it shifts your mindset wholly in a second. It is gradual. Plus may be only one step at a time. But I see people read books after book but never benefit from it.
@CodingCommando True. It opens your heart to so much in the world.
I think Vembu didn't read/listen to the lecture Ranjan says abt production of services: > It will also generate a source of income ... to seed rural communities that would otherwise lack the economic capacity to survive the loss of agricultural incomes.
