The pursuit could be building a career, starting a business, or any other venture.

What is an unfair advantage? Something others can't copy but gives you an edge over others in the same pursuit. It could be: • Parents' status • Wealth • A degree • Alma matter • Looks • Stamina • Intelligence • Brain power

Why have an unfair advantage? World is chaotic and competitive. Failure is the norm. Want to increase the odds of success? You need all the support you can get. Having unfair advantages increases your chances of success, but it also creates a chasm between you and others.

@WesleySam7 Agree. But I don’t think it is only with Indian firms. Most product companies fall for this - look at LinkedIn.

@ImAkshayPandey1 @malpani Thanks for saying this: > We can be proud of our own religion without belittling other religions with ‘smirk’ tone If you don’t know enuf abt your religion you know little abt other’s religion. Calling a spade requires enuf knowledge abt the spade.

@fmarciano Compounding is the wonder of wealth building. ⇒ • keep revenue > expenses • start wealth building early • find compounding assets (mostly equities) • invest regularly • sit quietly as the asset does its job

@malpani That’s why forward thinking leaders in TN like Annadurai choose to have 2 language model - mother tongue (Tamil) and English. And two is enough.

@malpani @anandkjain Question is not if the founding fathers did the right thing given their context. Question is what are we doing today with the resources and whatever legacy we have. We can keep looking back to the legacy to build farther; no point in stuck looking back at the legacy.

@malpani @anandkjain African countries, Sri Lanka (shares history with India/Tamilnadu; so fertile across country; been there), Pakistan Almost all countries have glorious past. Just that we don't know their history.

@anandkjain @malpani Concur Anand. What I see more and more is judging founding father's work through today's prism. Their context was different. Which of the country that got independence at that time stands tall as India? (Irony is we don't judge actions of today's leaders with today's prism)

@malpani If we copy anything from other countries this is something we should copy - independent institutions - police, judiciary, media, universities etc. Then many other reforms will fall in place automatically. (PS: I know this independence is tested many times and there is lobby)

@agNishchay Bang on. It has never been easier to build a product over the weekend. But the persistence needed to think of all edge cases and handling them - my gosh … that’s what makes product development harder

@malpani While growing up there was emphasis on critical thinking (my Tamil teacher Murugan would drill this into us). May be I was just lucky in those aspects.

@malpani I studied in TN state board (not CBSE). - I learnt abt all Indian rulers - from Gupta to Akbar to Cholas - I don't think TN state board was biased with muslim rulers (that's what I hear on twitter) - Our Tamil language subject was rich with Hindu literature

@malpani ever since you posted the first twee on this series, I have been thinking. my 2cents: - we focused more on STEM; left out literature - we read subjects with aim to pass not to learn - we read only school books not outside ones (we didn't have time) - school books were biased

@AbhayVenkatesh1 What are the ways we can build unfair advantage? Esp those who don’t have privileges - from a developing country, didn’t study in a great college…

@arvidkahl @robwalling How do you develop this mindset - celebrator of others success? - Is it abundance mindset? - or does it come only when you have gone way ahead?

Joseph Jude
Joseph Jude @jjude
In reply to @jjude

@CodingCommando @_zenman Biz mentality (primarily it is abundance mindset) is diff from employee mindset (primarily scarcity / fear mindset). This is going to be the greatest challenge you'll face.

@Kamphey @SathyaHQ @LeeLaunches @tnvora He is from a city in India and his prospects & clients are mostly in Europe & Canada. When he started going abroad from India was very expensive and cumbersome too. But he went. Met them in person. That’s how he gained ideas to build his business.

@Kamphey @SathyaHQ @LeeLaunches @tnvora When I started my startup, I met a veteran CEO of the city for advice. He gave only one: get out of the office and meet customers. And he went on to share how he met customers, discovered new business offerings, and how he grew from a 2nd tier city.

@WesleySam7 @malpani I wish some Tamil Hindu translates into English. It is such a deep lovely book. One ex: every village has a temple and temple is the highest building; on top there is a pot which has 7 types of seeds. why? if there is flood and it destroys agri, you can restart with those seeds

@prla If you are looking for a coach / mentor, look for honesty over niceness. I was lucky to find @sastrytumuluri early in my career. He is not nice (😱), but my god he is so honest with his feedback. It hurts while hearing the feedback but it sets you on the growth path
