@eriktorenberg I’d say it’s probably more common for generalists to bail when things are no longer hard. Many are neophiles: they work through a hard challenge until the role becomes repetitive, then they look to learn something new. If your company becomes routine they’ll leave.
Question: What are the most antifragile businesses in the tech world right now (do BETTER in a recession or difficult times)?
Here’s is a meta meme that also teaches you something #happytweet
Specialist vs generalist: The problem is it's easy to lie to yourself & say that you're a generalist when in reality you've tried a bunch of things and you've flaked out when things got hard and tried something else. It's easy to do this repeatably & say "But I'm a generalist"

Perceived value gets you in the door. Delivering a result keeps you inside.
So I’m hearing many myths about #COVID-19 and would like to quickly clear the record. Coronavirus will go away in Sumer months. Wrong. Previous pandemics didn’t follow weather patterns plus as we enter summer, there will be winter in the Southern Hemisphere. Virus is global.
An Italian hospital ran out of ICU valves. A local biz brought a 3D printer to the hospital, redesigned & produced the valves in a few hours. “At the time of writing, 10 patients are accompanied in breathing by a machine that uses a 3D printed valve.”
Let's start a thread for interesting homeschooling resources.
Kindly note that it has been decided to withdraw curtains & blankets from AC coaches of trains as they are not washed every trip, for prevention of #coronavirus. Passengers may please bring their own blankets if need be. Inconvenience is regretted. @RailMinIndia @PiyushGoyalOffc
Risk and resilience. @jerrycolonna and I will be exploring that in our chat next week. How do we navigate life when our jobs requires us to be the release valve for other people’s uncertainty.
@CarmineSabia Friend - You are looking at end result figures and comparing them to a virus that a) we know relatively little about, and b) it is just at the beginning of its transmission/spread here in the US. You're comparing the end of a previous event to the beginning of a new event.

To think different, read different. To earn different, work different.
If you stop, it's a failure. If you keep going, it's an iteration.
Last 15 yrs if one invested 50 50 in just nifty and gold and rebalanced it every year....a 15pct cagr on large capital was possible We sometimes complicate lives.😄
4. Stop touching your face. Especially stop touching your eyes, nose or mouth. This is much much harder than it sounds, and takes practice. But if you start practising now, you will quickly get a lot better at it.

Fantastic free online book about naming and abstraction from @GetDoneDone @developerscode. I think for brevity and ease of understanding this easily replaces some of my previous recommended books on the topics of refactoring and readability. 👍👍👍
What are people’s best under-the-radar subscriptions they pay for personally? (content or SaaS) Under-the-radar defined as ~<1% of my Twitter followers subscribe. i.e. Stractechery no, but The Browser yes. Best recommendation: I’ll pay for 1 month for you (up to $20).
In a hyper-competitive world, people struggle with learning because learning requires increased tolerance for embarrassment, a high threshold for discomfort, and an ever-increasing need for humility.
@stvnyung What problems do you have? Solve them with an app, charge $2, email about 100 different blogs that write about problem solving for that audience (largest being Lifehacker, go smaller from there). Do that about a dozen times and you'll be pretty close!
@kevinbenson Update your bio to make your goal clear: "I teach people and coach business owners..." You (largely) get the audience you write for. On that front... start writing everywhere you can. A newsletter, blog, Medium, Quora, Reddit, Hacker News, Twitter... Wherever biz owners live!
@pastazaki I've seen it done! Mostly by picking a culturally relevant topic and being prolific about it. A comic a day, or a couple times a week, at least. Skill first, audience second, $$$ later. Once you have enough content, you can release a zine or even a printed-on-demand book.
@martinleblanc That's better! I said everyone "can" make, not "will." As in, everyone has the capability too but not necessarily the information/environment/circumstances. We're trying to change that in our small way!
I’ve been reading the poems of RS Thomas (1913-2000) for the last year and am coming to the end of his work. These, from AD in Counterpoint (1990) are so tender & moving; giving language for prayer for those of us made anxious by certitude.
Education is broken. Here is what the future of education will look like: 1. Teaching will become an extremely lucrative profession. Salaries will follow a power law. The best teachers will make millions of dollars per year and teach thousands of students per year.
This is the street-light effect: They ask (irrelevant) theory questions because there are no relevant practical questions to ask. But show them a substantial practical project, and the good companies will grab on to it like a drowning person grabbing a plank /21
One learning I have from running Shuttl for close to 5 years now is: Bite less. Chew more. Most problems come from biting more & chewing less. #focus

What Should You Work On? Focus on five industries: 1. Energy 2. Education 3. Housing 4. Healthcare 5. Transportation All big markets. Their costs are rising faster than the rate of inflation, which means there’s big demand for alternative solutions.
If a man invests all of his money, all of his time, and all of his intellect into giving the world what it needs... the world will have no choice but to give him what he wants.
Of *course* the "choose your country" is alphabetically sorted / not autodetected. And of course the "blow up my shit with sales emails and phone calls" boxes are checked by default.
Wealth is the power to choose. Financial wealth is the power to choose how to spend money. Social wealth is the power to choose who to hang out with. Calendar wealth is the power to choose how to spend your time. Mental wealth is the power to choose your thoughts.
Does every profession have their own version of Stack Overflow? Looking for more examples (other than subreddits). Some I can think of: Figure1 for healthcare professionals Proformative for accountants and controllers
Someone who copies you is just copying one frame out of a video. If you keep going, you'll find that their video diverges from yours, and probably not for the better.

It is becoming very apparent to me that the number one reason why agencies lose clients isn't lack of results. It's lack of communication and processes.
When @sobtiankit said "Customer success is all about helping customers succeed at their jobs, not at using your product" - I admit that this is the first thing I sent to my own customer success team :) no doubt @getpostman is growing so awesomely :)
I thank @spatro of @getSignEasy for giving a simple template for documenting user persona! - When you are defining the user persona of a customer, your core team should be able to answer the following: a) background b) pain point c) goal d) reason to use the product
@codepo8 Check out , too—I like that one for some additional detail. (Via @UITestcom—my own site, but it focuses on such tools.)
Money is not the goal. The goals are, not being constantly stressed, not working a job you hate, sleeping with no alarm clock, spending time with family & friends, learning slowly, helping people who could do more, not being constantly busy, smiling more genuinely, being happy.
If you listen to any cover music of Hans Zimmer you'll realize how his choice of exotic instruments makes a huge difference. Great artists differentiate in the detailing. #inception #interstellar
People will pay $9,000 to have a textbook read to them at elite universities, but won’t pay $1 for a podcast loaded with original content.
