Every podcast interview starts the same way. "Tell us your backstory." This is an opportunity to cover your boring resume or tell your story in a compelling fashion. To connect with the audience in a way that's human. Here's my 7-step process for a compelling backstory.
14/ As the famous wheat and chessboard story demonstrates, at any growth rate, an entity growing at an exponential rate quickly becomes insanely big. Watch this video to digest how quickly exponentials grow:
A surprisingly high amount of value when you are coaching someone simply comes from asking 1) Why do you want to do this? 2) Which of these reasons (or goals) is most important for you, and why? With rigorous answers, the right tactics & solutions often just reveal themselves.

Content creators are happy. But retention doesn't improve. Why not? You have a bad case of The Interesting-ness Problem. When a user opens an app (IG, youtube, TikTok) they need juicy content within 7 seconds (or they bounce) This is the "Interesting-ness" problem.
1 - twitch creators are live ~40 hours a week. Our best creators do weekly shows. ~3-4 hrs a week max. The game makes content creation easier 2 -Twitch is vertically focused (gaming). Clubhouse is horizontal. You need "great content" across EVERY category.
@dr I was in the same boat! It was hard to justify it as important as I knew it probably was! I ended up getting Mangools on a Black Friday sale ( it’s still significantly cheaper) and it does everything I need right now.
@jjude @Justinsua Reminds me of this quote... "If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try." — Seth Godin
Too many apps, no real innovation. Cute Tech is ailing Indian technology, especially the private sector. Cute tech uses peripheral innovation to repackage an old idea and sell it in a new, digitally oriented way.
Interest -> Hobby -> Passion -> Obsession -> Craft A craft opens up opportunities to either monetize it (do a startup), or keep pursuing it as art, or to train others. If you try to monetize something before it fully forms, it might completely collapse under that burden.

Pixar’s rules of storytelling: Once upon a time there was ___. Every day, ___. One day ___. Because of that, ___. Because of that, ___. Until finally ___.
You want more freedom? Add a pinch of discipline. Discipline and freedom are a strange dichotomy at first glance. Most people associate discipline with being in a cage doing undesirable things. But the truth is this: freedom requires discipline.
Fascinating field I just learned about -- intellectual property analytics. You scan public databases for IP trends. For example, look for a boost in filings in a certain area of technology. Or, a surge from a normally quiet country could signal an emerging market. Brilliant.
The people whose careers you admire and study the most are the ones your own career starts to emulate. This seems like a great thing, until you realize along the way the downsides that come with that kind of career. Every glamour has its price. (1/7)

A basic framework I use to understand what to prioritize in a marketing strategy: - Pre-existing demand? Search - No pre-existing demand? Social - More time than money? Content - More money than time? Ads
70% of all green high speed rail is in China 🇨🇳. In the early morning, the high-speed train is ready to leave near Guangzhou South Railway Station. It has 894 high-speed trains entering and leaving every day.
1/ When we have a problem we wish to solve, we turn to people who have solved that problem to ask them for answers. This is seeking the map. Don't seek the map.
2/ Reply with value Value can come in several different forms: • Present a different perspective • Enforce their point and backing with evidence • Referring them to a link, book or external resource that could potentially add value to their life Value → profile clicks
@HatchKolby @tanyamoushi @TheHustle We get this question all the time! @agarwalshipra I have used these questions, at different points in my career: How can I become a top 50 product manager in the valley? How can I become a top 15 product leader in the valley? ~ Related, for early/mid-career PMs, becoming a 10-30-50 PM is a goal that’s worth considering:
Let's be honest - we take technology for granted. Here are some game-changing examples:
Probably not the best choice for a call to action.
9/ What stands out & spreads the most? In my category (business): – novel ideas – frameworks – actionable examples others can learn from – business breakdowns – transparently sharing numbers or behind the scenes – and unfortunately, controversial, contrarian takes! 🤨
This 1 question gave them the immense clarity & focus needed to achieve the unachievable. When you are on an early-stage team or company, the odds are often stacked against you. And the best way to turn the odds in your favor is through clarity of purpose & relentless focus.
As a creative, you do your best work when you find yourself saying: "I'm so damn proud of this piece that I don't even care what other people think about it."
I was holding this back, but you know what, let's kick this hornet's nest. Many engineers are unprepared for the autonomy and freedom they demand. Most problems in business will not fit in your well-scoped JIRA ticket. That doesn't mean you get to ignore them until they do.

A few semi-controversial things I believe 👇
Most startups die of self-inflicted wounds, not because of their competitors. Keep your head down and focus less on competitors and more on product market fit. Hire the right people and remember that the user is your customer, and your investors and journalists aren't.
We struggled, but hit $1m ARR in ~6 months to raise a successful Series C to keep the company alive. On the way, we learned an important lesson: hype doesn't pay the bills.
