Having once been an Islamist myself (when I was much younger) I can tell you with the wisdom of hindsight that a lot of it is really about identity and very little of it is about spirituality. We feel humiliated by the West, and alienated from our own pre-colonial identities
An Iraqi author once said: "If you ask Muslims to vote for what system they want, they'll vote for an Islamic system and then go live in a Western country". Funny huh. Well stop laughing. Our people want *both* to express their identity *and* to live in prosperity and dignity.
Spend the afternoon reading about the future of the insurance industry. It was WAY more interesting than I expected. 4 key takeaways:
You're about to learn a skill you'll use on every tweet, email, and blog post you write for the rest of your life. Here's how to write a powerful first sentence... 🧵👇
By "senior" I mean, as a crude approximation, "old enough to have school aged children at home". By "involved" I mean "typing code" and "reviewing code". I know! In our industry it has been more common for such folks to age out to management and leave the typing to the kids.
"WTF are we talking about?" I shared this page a few weeks back. It's my take on the ultimate, generic newsletter landing page. It's designed for signups and only signups. The Hustle grew to 1.5M subscribers with a page like this. EVERY subscriber went to this page FIRST.

I hear you asking, dear reader, how this miracle came to pass. How did chrome-team manage to deliver high quality software without death marches? Funny you ask... Turns out that software projects actually benefit strongly from having senior technical leadership deeply involved.
There is the work, and there is the work about the work. Managers should obsess about the latter because without it the former is compromised. Example: being a master in the art of identifying tensions among team members and figuring out how to resolve them.

The leader was strong His chosen men were loyal. But they were so busy working hard to be loyal that they forgot to serve the people. The leader was upset. "But we can't help it," his chosen ones said in a chorus. "If we were so competent, there was no need for us to be loyal"

Mental models are useful tools to simplify our complex reality. But unfortunately, when misapplied, these "useful" models become anything but. THREAD: A mental model on maps, the territory, and how to avoid getting lost:
A team without steam can collapse any Dream. 😞
“Please don’t bother with perfection. Just do what comes to you with ease. Nothing is worth the stress and the self-flagellation.” I want my children to imbibe this like a mantra. I congratulate myself for getting by. My column in @thetribunechd
2/ First: DP is a real theory, and it's one of the greatest contributions to our understanding of expertise. It is a technical term. It does NOT mean 'practicing deliberately'. We'll define it soon. My problems with it stem mostly from trying to apply it, and failing miserably.
5. The fate of these donors - Tatas are anti-national. Airtel and Idea are struggling to survive. And the two people who did not donate at all - Ambani and Adani are eating the donors away. KARMA is a bitch. When you fund a hate factory, you will be devoured by it too. END

@jjude @prod2tp @paperlessmove I agree everyone's 24 hours is different. Privilege is just 1 of hundreds of factors that contribute to our actions. Isolating 1 factor need context for the individual I think. Money does not equal time in many situations. automated income is becoming more accessible.

Never imagined founder of the tool I use often will come on Gravitas WINS show and chat with me about the usage. @jessep stayed for the complete session & chatted for half hour on future roadmap of @WorkFlowy. Amazing feeling which I will cherish for long. Thank you Jesse

Richard Branson carried a notebook with him all the time. In fact, Darwin, Picasso, Mark Twain all carried a notebook with them. Do you know why? You don't know when ideas will strike you. You don't want to lose those unformed but precious ideas.
Elon recently toured Tim Dodd around the Starbase facility in Texas, where SpaceX is building the tallest rocket ever (Starship). Over 2 hours of footage. It's gold. Best part: Elon breaking down his 5-STEP design and manufacturing process. Here it is 🧵

Gary was big on writing first thing in the morning. So before bed, he would scribble down notes on four questions: • What's the big idea here? • What's my product's biggest benefit? • What's most exciting about this product? • What emotion am I trying to create.
@jjude The problem with any sort of RAID is that HDD choices are locked across the set. To upgrade space or performance, all HDDs must be replaced, and that's just adding to the price and hassle. For home use a non-RAID SSD combined with cloud backup seems more sensible.
And I am a huge fan !
I have been running a newsletter for 4-5 years now, before it became cool. Initially I sent a newletter whenever I published a blog post, which was whenever I wanted to write. In the last 2 years I've been regular. I send every Wednesday. I call it "Wednesday Wisdom" 😜
