A lot of Indians travel to Dubai for holidays and it is quite expensive if you convert, but there are so many ways to get some good deals/savings out of it if you are a tourist. I'm gonna share some of my experiences on how to make the most of your buck in this city. 🧵👇
I teach an undergrad class on Latin American politics that incorporates films as a supplement to the readings. Since it's course prep time, I'll share the films I assign, by country, and links where currently available here:

Trusting in God doesn't mean we don't act. It means we don't despair.
A paradox is a seemingly self-contradictory statement that proves true. The most powerful paradoxes I’ve found:
Good curation > Mediocre creation. We have limited time. And there's a lot of bad content that sucks your time. To curate well, one needs to develop a decent understand of topics. I will curate the best finance stuff from Twitter on Multipie daily if there is good interest.
“Have you seen Jawaharlal?” The question everyone asked John Gunther in 1938 can be, in a twisted way, posed about the official celebration of 75 years of our independence. But how can there be an independent India without Nehru? My @thecaravanindia column
@balajis Novelists use little lies to tell big truths. Journalists use little truths to tell big lies.
2/ Reduce the friction • If you’re doing YouTube, keep your camera out. • If you're practicing chess, leave your chess set on the table. • If you’re growing a business, email ONE customer. Reduce the friction that stops you from doing. Make it easy for yourself to succeed.
In an article published in the Kirti magazine in July 1928, Bhagat Singh stated firmly that India would achieve freedom and understand the status of freedom in the context of the world through Nehru’s school of thought.
Christian men, struggling with lust? Well, according to Jesus, the woman doesn’t have to change her clothing—you have to pluck your eye out. Go struggle with that.
@Setzer7777 @CarlosHappyNPO Brandon, Christianity is seen as a “do” religion when it’s really about “being”, which sets it apart and really moves it from the world religious scene into relationship. Jesus is the power and we are His instruments & we get it twisted b/c of our pride.
Steps to Mastery (from the book) "These steps are: Deep Observation (The Passive Mode), Skills Acquisition (The Practice Mode), and Experimentation (The Active Mode)."
Talent + social skills = CXO in the making. Talent + no social skills = Valuable employee; if under a nice manager even better. Only social skills = A 🎈 that only goes up until a few meters before bursting (not literally)

It’s easy to say “both sides” or “unity” when you’re on the side of power and your rights, dignity, and humanity isn’t being stripped away. Being nice to oppressors never won the oppressed their freedom. Just because someone wants me close, doesn’t mean they want me free.
Become a better writer A core way to improve the handoff is to write and communicate better. Apart from this, “Writing is a tool for thinking.” You can do this by, for example, following an excellent guide by @Julian:
So, I made a video explaining how global warming works fully knowing that no one will watch it because they think they know already...so this is gratifying. You can watch here: It's not that complicated, but no one ever actually goes into it!
My mentor is a founder who you have never heard of. But he: • Built a $10B company • Acquired 12 MEGA brands • Gets home daily by 6pm • Built one of the most amazing cultures I've witnessed Here are the 12 most important lessons I learned from him🧵

Lesson 2: Culture is what you tolerate. No matter how hard I look, I can't find a better definition of culture. If you allow complacency, people will stop growing. If you tolerate people not knowing their numbers, they won’t know them.
If you give people 2 weeks, they will take it. And If you let people be themselves, they’ll surprise you. High bar + kindness = great culture.

@jjude @SathyaHQ @maxwellcdavis @dvassallo @kenneth0stanley This is very good, Joseph. 💯 That first question is the one that directs you on helping you define what an opportunity and what a distraction is. @ConsultingChick and @jonathanstark put it way nicer here 👇
@jjude @SathyaHQ @maxwellcdavis @dvassallo @kenneth0stanley Deciding what to follow comes from asking a question: "is this helping me get where i want?" → it's about a desired outcome, on a big picture, high altitude view.
@dineshraju The core of Thiel's argument, the bit that's so haunting to me, is his implicit argument that a) yes, reality may be probabilistic but b) if you want to build crazy ambitious things, it's not useful to believe that it is — because you won't try as hard to make things succeed.
Sad to see that in 2022 articles on job creation in India are being written by the same people who wrote in 2002 and 2012. Even that job is not being created.

My most controversial opinion is that modern science and tech would not be possible without monotheism.
25/ I have nothing to add to the above. I'm just a tech nerd who worries about tech nerds getting too excited about tech and forgetting about humans. But I have a bit of an addendum about this whole display. ↵

Our strategy is to progressively nativeify more parts of our app as we grow the team. However, the editor will probably remain a webview for the foreseeable future, because of complexity tradeoff. Google Docs, Quip, Dropbox Paper, Coda - all use native shell, webview editor.
