Great day #sketchnote-ing, learning from the best @sylviaduckworth. Still a chance to see her on the world tour https://t.co/X0K4t798Iw next stop Mumbai https://t.co/c82atgROdt
Techies think that debt is something that must be repaid. Business types understand that debt should never be repaid, and really, cannot be repaid. Techies think they are justifying why something needs to be fixed, when in fact they are explaining why it never needs to be fixed.
@jjude @GrayCellTech Thank you for your support Joseph!

PSA. Careful when you buy an @AdobeIndia membership! Their cancellation fee for the annual plan is five times the monthly fee. Zero info in their purchase flow. Customer support gave me gyaan about reading T&Cs before investing "hard-earned money", before (thankfully) waiving it. https://t.co/r0XRoyQCkS
If you want to be wealthy, spend your time relaxing, or earning. Outsource or ignore everything else.
Happiness generally isn't about making more money, but rather freedom.
The freedom to say no to things you don't want to do. The freedom to say no to people you don't like. The freedom to not feel like you are obligated to say "yes."
Freedom is saying yes when you want to.

@RetireMeASAP I have found the opposite to be true as well. The book becomes the ultimate business growth tool.
If your are a provider of professional services a book is a miracle for the business.

@wolfejosh Since I know you’re a man of science, here are some stats I find interesting:
1) Of the Top-10 ranked hospitals in the US, 9/10 were founded by Christians.
2) Of the Top-10 worldwide ranked universities, all 10 were founded by Christians.
Labeling symptoms as problems will make you work on the wrong thing.
Band-aiding the symptom without addressing your problem will create worse symptoms.
Since this chart is a WIP and I am editing it and improving on it as I go along, You can see the "current" version here : https://t.co/4QDXz4pAfV
WHY YOU SHOULD WRITE
1) Writing moves the world. The Bible, the Constitution, the Gettysburg Address. Study history. The written word is uniquely powerful.
2) Writing sharpens your thinking. The mind usually jumps from thought to thought, but writing forces you to slow down.
Don Valentine, the greatest of all time. I spent the morning watching his GSB talk. Rest in peace:
1. If you don't attack a big market, it's highly unlikely you're ever going to build a big company.

Q: How do introverts socialize and make new friends?
When there is no fear, there is no market for those who allay the fears.
So they create fears, so as to be relevant.
Never trust ideas that have not emerged from an effort to build something tangible.
@thepekingorder I've always argued that hyper targeting and personalistion is anti-human https://t.co/TtZv9Th2oC
Here's a slide I'm starting to show right after I talk about the benefits of personalization.
Sometimes it's just best to show everybody the same damn ad. https://t.co/3a7eBtijMb
If a plebiscite was held, few people would want to give up their own right to voice on social media.
They may want to silence someone else, but they would not want to give up their own right.
Nor should it be taken away without good reason and due process.

The world did not have 64 megapixel cameras a thousand years ago. Why do people waste do much time fighting on the past? Is it because they seek pride instead of joy?
GETTING AI/MLs TO UNDERSTAND CONTEXT
(thread)
Why do computers need to be shown 1000 coffee cups to understand what a cup is, whereas a human child can understand the concept after being shown a single cup?
Because human brains can do unsupervised contextualization.

Anticipate, but don’t expect.
Anticipation: You’re excited for what the future holds, but you don’t try to control it.
Expectation: You try to predict the future and restrict your happiness to one outcome.
Always be excited about the possibilities. Never be entitled to them.

Interesting thread and links. Bloggers cannot replace journalists if they don't follow the rules of journalism. https://t.co/4CCh5GftQs
Completely wrong to say journalists should not have opinions. They should. Else they are stenographers. Even presentation of news, while being in objective language, must examine shrewdly the context and style of what is being covered.

Every business is a lifestyle business. Some just have no life outside of business because they work 80 hours a week. That’s a lifestyle too.
One or two decisions a year is good enough. What matters is implementation.
The thing more people need to say is, our investments in health, education, access to capital, productivity, well-being shd be higher, and the rest should be pared down. Giving people the capacity to develop themselves is better than false promises of govts to deliver it to them.
I learned this the hard way. Get this book. "Your culture is who you are. Who you are is not the values you list on the wall. It’s not what you say at an all-hands. It’s not your marketing campaign. It’s not even what you believe. It’s what you do." https://t.co/5Cwi3oN3ww
The greatest value to developing economies, of exponential technologies, is democratization. Democratization means cost, access, knowhow and an ecosystem that harnesses local capability and supports native culture. It means technology thinking in the context of its population.
Data scientists often figure out privacy much later in the cycle. #PrivacyFirst culture in the long run will lead to better quality of data. https://t.co/gnUCHj9UIF

@JamesClear You can’t change the people around you. But you can change the people around you.
@JamesClear When faced with a decision between two actions:
Take the one that intuitively feels like it will bring about more luck in the future
Turpentine makes Stripe’s product *and* culture better. Getting neck-deep versus ankle-deep into the minds of users and watering holes of the problem space makes the work more rewarding because Stripes can feel their impact and hone their instincts for what to put into the world.
Turpentine is what is really going on at the one-inch altitude. It’s not the generic, cliched, shape of it observed from 10,000 feet. Even the smartest, most thoughtful, best-intentioned people won’t get it right without the ground-level perspective and visceral sense of what is.
"Haha Patrick you're not going to tell me bank teller employment is up since we made a machine literally called Automated Teller Machine are you."

@jjude @hnshah People differ about quality (the capital Q is specious) because quality is a relationship between people and products. It’s intrinsically different from one person to the next, and over time. Quality could only be the same to the degree that people share the same values.
Being bullish on India does not mean buying and owning all junk in India. India would grow, but you won't.
Buy only good companies or multicap funds or index. You would grow along with India.
There are way too many junk in our markets. Be careful.
